Hoagy B. Carmichael

Nella costruzione delle canne da mosca in bambù la fama mondiale di Hoagy B. Carmichael è fuori da ogni discussione e non ha certo bisogno della mia presentazione.

Il suo biglietto da visita, "A Master's Guide To Building A Bamboo Fly Rod" è il testo ritenuto universalmente la "Bibbia" di tutti i libri sulla costruzione dove si spiegano passo passo metodi e procedure usate dal grande costruttore americano Everett Garrison , del quale Hoagy ha avuto la fortuna di essere stato allievo ed amico.

Credo che la maggior parte degli attuali costruttori di canne, professionisti o per diletto, debbano avere grande gratitudine ad Hoagy per questa sua opera senza la quale sarebbe stato molto difficile costruire, e forse addirittura impossibile, una canna da mosca in bambù.

Hoagy B. carmichael è anche autore di altri autorevoli testi che per i loro contenuti sono dei pezzi di storia nella pesca a mosca e nella costruzione delle canne:

Many thanks for the photos. I had a wonderful time in Italy, and enjoyed meeting men like you who are doing such wonderful work with bamboo. Four of five makers that I met there have pushed the craft about as far as I have seen so far, and have ideas that I could not have dreamed of when I wrote the book. It is a delight to see. Your rods are wonderful, and I thank you for showing them to me.

How nice to get your email, and the wonderful photos of your new rod. As with many rods I saw several years ago in Italy, it looks VERY good. Mr.Garrison would be proud to see some of the work that is being done in Europe. The 193 is a sweet little taper as long as you don't ask too much ofit. A 4 WFF is about all it can take. Nice going!
